Acne - Acne Vulgaris

One of the most prevalent skin problems that most people wtend to deal with at one or more times in their lives is acne. The skin is very complex and yet very delicate at the same time, which means that skin problems are bound to crop up at some time or other. It is good to know that there is a lot of information available on the proper and most effective ways of treating acne.

Acne symptoms can show up anywhere on the body, but most commonly appear on the face, back and shoulders.  Whiteheads, blackheads and redness often accompany a breakout.  Pimples, which are small eruptions in the skin, may be seen in the more sensitive areas.

As you go throughout the day, your skin is producing special oils to help to keep your skin hydrated.  The oil exits the skin through small pores, and the pores can get blocked or clogged.  If the oil can't get through the clogged pore, it has no place to go so redness and swelling often occur.  The inflammation from the oil being unable to exit the skin properly often causes pimples to form.  As you can see, the clogging or blocking of pores is one of the major causes of acne.

Because the oil production in the skin is closely tied to hormonal changes, there are many things that can affect whether or not a person has acne.  Some people who went through the puberty stage with little or no acne may find that the hormonal changes brought on by pregnancy or even menopause can cause acne to occur.  There are many other factors that affect oil production in the skin, including diet, weather, aging, and stress.  When the pores can't handle or properly process the oil that is being produced, they may become blocked or clogged.

When a person is suffering from the symptoms of acne, he may wonder what can be done and how hard it will be.  There are many products on the market to help keep pores clear or to clear up outbreaks.  Inflammation can be treated, and excess oil removed.  By cleaning with a soap that gently hydrates the skin, you can help unclog the pores.  Afterwards, you can use a moisturizing cream to keep the skin hydrated so that more oils will not need to be produced by the skin.  By following a daily regimen of gentle cleansing and hydration, a person can often maintain healthy skin.  If the problem continues to get worse, visiting a dermatologist may be a good option for you.
